How buyers find Etsy listings in AI assistants

Etsy has announced integrations with OpenAI, Google and Microsoft so US shoppers can find, and in some cases buy, eligible Etsy items inside their AI assistants. Etsy has said its sellers can show up on these surfaces “without extra work”. Etsy has not published which listing fields those assistants receive or how they choose which Etsy items to show.
What was announced and where
These are dated announcements, not a promise that every listing is available for purchase through each assistant.
ChatGPT
OpenAI launched Instant Checkout, supporting one item per purchase; Etsy announced discovery and purchasing in chat.
- When: September 29, 2025.
- Where: US ChatGPT Free, Plus and Pro users buying from US Etsy sellers.
Google (AI Mode and Gemini app)
Etsy announced purchases of some items; Google later announced checkout was rolling out.
- When: Announced January 11, 2026; rollout announced February 11, 2026.
- Where: Signed-in Google users in the US, in AI Mode in Google Search and the Gemini app.
Microsoft Copilot
Etsy announced eligible items in Copilot Checkout; Microsoft announced the US rollout.
- When: January 8, 2026.
- Where: Signed-in Microsoft users in the US, on the web at Copilot.com.
Keep the scale in proportion. On its earnings call of August 6, 2026, Etsy said traffic from these AI shopping experiences was less than 1% of its overall traffic, according to the earnings-call transcript.
ChatGPT checkout has conflicting documentation
On March 24, 2026, OpenAI announced that merchants could use their own checkout experiences while OpenAI focused on product discovery. On May 5, 2026, Etsy announced its ChatGPT app in beta: shoppers could search and compare listings in conversation, then click through to Etsy.
Etsy’s own pages still describe purchasing inside ChatGPT. Its buyer help page, last edited January 15, 2026 and checked on October 4, 2026, says US shoppers can purchase some listings through ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode and Copilot. The Seller Handbook article dated June 29, 2026 also describes purchases within AI surfaces including ChatGPT.
The March 2026 section of Etsy’s shop updates, a page last edited September 22, 2026, says US buyers can discover and/or purchase eligible items within those platforms. Etsy has not published an end date for its ChatGPT Instant Checkout integration. These sources do not settle whether you can complete an Etsy purchase inside ChatGPT today.
What Etsy told sellers
Etsy’s seller update of October 6, 2025 said US sellers enrolled in Offsite Ads could have listings included in ChatGPT Instant Checkout. It said there was no participation or sales fee at that time, and orders would appear on your Orders page like any other sale.
Those statements were for ChatGPT only. That FAQ is not in the current Seller Handbook article, dated June 29, 2026, which gives no fee, eligibility or opt-out details for these integrations. The old fee statement is not a current pricing promise.
Etsy has not published Google or Copilot fee and opt-out rules, detailed eligibility rules across these integrations, or how AI visits and orders are attributed in Stats. Its general Partner Checkout policy ties opting out to Offsite Ads, but does not name these assistants. It does not establish an opt-out from AI discovery.
What you can control in your listing
An accurate, complete listing is the only listing lever with evidence behind it here, and that evidence concerns Etsy’s own search. Etsy’s listing guidance dated April 27, 2026 says its search considers the title, tags, attributes, descriptions, first photo and reviews together. It advises naming the item clearly and putting important traits such as material and size up front.
Use that guidance to describe what you actually sell. No source here shows which listing fields the outside assistants read, and Etsy has not published a method for improving your placement in them.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to opt in?
Etsy says these integrations require no extra work from sellers. Its October 2025 inclusion statement applied to US sellers enrolled in Offsite Ads for ChatGPT Instant Checkout only; Etsy has not published current detailed eligibility rules across the AI surfaces.
Are there extra fees?
In October 2025, Etsy said there was no fee for ChatGPT participation or sales at that time. For Google and Copilot fees, Etsy has not published this; the old ChatGPT statement does not establish current fees.
Can I see which orders came from an AI assistant?
Etsy said in October 2025 that ChatGPT orders would appear on your Orders page like other sales. If you mean an AI source label for orders or visits in Stats, Etsy has not published this.
