Write a useful Etsy description

Start with the item

In the first sentence, say what the buyer receives and what makes it distinctive. Then answer the questions that would otherwise become a message before checkout: dimensions, materials, colors, variations, customization, care, and what is included. State processing and shipping details only if they match the current listing settings.

For example, a cutting-board description might begin: “Walnut cutting board made to order with an engraved name. Choose your size and enter the name in the personalization field.” The rest should give actual dimensions, finish, care instructions, and production time. Never copy those details from a sample unless they are true for your product.

Check for unsupported promises

Read the draft as a buyer. Does the photo show the same variation the text describes? Does “solid walnut” describe every option? Is a gift box actually included? A clear answer is worth more than another keyword phrase.
